Uganda Cranes coach Micho summons 35 players ahead of 2023 AFCON Qualifiers

Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has summoned 35 players ahead of the upcoming March international break.

This is in preparation of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. The same players will be used in the Navruz mini tournament in Uzbekistan where Uganda was invited to take part in.

Among the players invited are 20 local based and 15 foreign based players.

This provisional squad will take place in a regional tour of two legs. The eventual squad of 23 players that will travel to Central Asia in Uzbekistan will be named before 25th of March 2022 when the tournament starts.

“We shall test the players with internal regional build up and tune the competitive mode since friendly matches are all about trying, testing and experimenting before naming the final 23 players who will travel to Uzbekistan.’ Micho said.

The Navruz tournament will have four countries taking part in it. Tjese are Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgz Republic and Uganda. It will run from the 25th-29th of March 2022.

According to the FUFA website, the squad has some returning faces to the squad after a long time and a few new faces.

“Some of the returning players include Faruku Miya, team captain Emmanuel Okwi, Allan Kyambadde with new faces like Marvin Youngman (Soltilo Bright Stars FC), reigning Airtel FUFA footballer of the year Bobosi Byaruhanga, young players ; goalkeeper Jack Komakech, Steven Sserwadda, Najib Yiga, Derrick Kakooza, Sadat Happy Anaku and Alfred Leku.”

There are also 5 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 6 central midfielders, 7 offensive midfielders and 8 forwards in the summoned squad.
