English Premier League side Chelsea Football Club have been slapped wish season ruining clauses after Russian owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government.

The sanctions that have been placed on the Russian billionaire are because of his close ties to Russian president, Vladimir Putin.

A number of Russian oligarchs have received numerous sanctions from the European union especially the West.

Abramovich who is a very close ally of Putin and even considered Putin’s bank gate to the West was threatened with these sanctions a number of days ago.

This was after Russia declared a full scale invasion on neighbors, Ukraine.

Abramovich who purchased Chelsea in 2003 turning it into a European powerhouse was forced to put up the club he clearly and dearly loved so much on sale.

The Russian moneybags announced that the club would cost 3 billion dollars and the proceeds would be used to set up a charity to avail relief to the Ukrainians affected by the war.

However, before the club could be purchased, Abramovich has now seen all his assets in the UK frozen and the sale of the club put on hold.

Besides this, Chelsea won’t be able to sell any more tickets as only those with season tickets will be the only ones to access the remaining games.

The club won’t be able to sell any merchandise nor will they be able to carry out any transfer business until further notice.

The club was also given a special license for it’s premier league matches to go ahead although with strict restrictions.

According to the British Prime Minister’s spokesperson, these measures are designed to punish Putin.

“These measures are obviously designed to punish Putin and ensure any revenue generated cannot make its way through to the Russian war machine.”

The measures will be revised in May. However if Chelsea end up in administration, they will receive a 9 point deduction which might prove costly.
