Sadio Mane gets the better of Liverpool teammate Mo Salah as he fires Senegal to Qatar

Sadio Mane was at the winning side once more as his country faced off with Egypt in the quest for a spot at the globe’s biggest football tournament which will take place this year in Qatar.

Egypt came into the game courtesy of a 1-0 win registered a few days ago in Cairo.

However, Senegal managed to level the tie in just the fourth minute after an own goal by Hamdi Fathi.

This was just like the first leg after Senegalese defender Saliou Ciss scored in his own net in the 4th minute in Cairo.

The game finished 1-0 in favor of Senegal meaning that the score was tied 1-1 on aggregate. The two countries played extra time and the score didn’t change leaving things to be settled in a penalty shootout.

This was the same case in the 2021 AFCON final when the two countries had to settle matters through a shootout.

And just as the AFCON final where the West African country triumphed over the North Africans, it was the same as Senegal won 3-1.

Liverpool’s number 11 Mohammed Salah missed a decisive penalty as he sent the ball high into the skies.

The Merseyside club’s number 10 Sadio Mane made no mistake from the spot when he stepped up just like how he did in the AFCON finals.

Mane hit the target as he sent the Senegalese to their second World Cup in a row.

Cameroon on the other hand staged a late come back to oust Algeria and book their spot in Qatar.

They also came into the game at a highly unfair advantage of a goal down meaning it was actually 2 down since they were beaten 1-0 at their own turf.

Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting restored parity for Cameroon in the 22nd minute. This game also went to extra time until Ahmed Touba equalized for Algeria in the 118th minute of extra time.

As the Algerians celebrated thinking they had secured their ticket to Qatar, Karl Toko Ekambi scored a second and eventual game winner for Cameroon in the 124th minute.

Morocco thrashed DR Congo 4-1 and advanced to Qatar on an aggregate of 5-2.

Tunisia also got past Mali on a 1-0 aggregate after winning the first game as the second ended in a goalless draw.

Ghana also got past their regional rivals Nigeria on away goals rule. The first game had ended 0-0 in Accra whereas the second ended 1-1 in Lagos.

The five countries that will represent Africa in this years football showpiece in Qatar are Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Morocco and Tunisia.
