FIFA made history after naming 6 women for this year’s 2022 Qatar World Cup that is slated to take place between November-December.

Among these 6 women was Rwandan female centre referee Salima Mukasanga. Mukasanga 33 years is the only and first woman referee that will handle a world cup match from the African Continent.

Mukasanga also made history this year after becoming the first female referee to officiate a game in Africa’s biggest football tournament the AFCON.

This is one of the moves by FIFA in promoting women in the men’s game and this will be a big test for them at the 92 year old competition.

Among the 6 women chosen by FIFA, 3 will be centre referees while the rest will be match officials in other fields.

In total, 36 refs were listed, 69 assistant referees and 24 video match officials.
